ACT Government to complete the duplication of Cotter Road in 2016/17 Budget

Released 25/07/2017

Joint Chief Minister Andrew Barr and Meegan Fitzharris Media Release

The ACT Government will complete the full duplication of Cotter Road in the 2016/17 ACT Budget. The announcement is part of the ACT Government’s Pop-up Cabinet in Weston Creek and Molonglo, where Minister’s will visit local schools and government services in the area.

This project has been part of the Government’s forward planning on transport infrastructure upgrades, having been designed and costed in previous budgets.  The Government has already completed a number of major upgrades to the Road, including the signalisation of the Lady Denman Drive and Cotter Road intersection.

The ACT Budget will commit $28.9m to the project in 2016/17 and over the forward estimates, with the aim to complete the project in 2018/19.

The ACT Government is committed to supporting the growth of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek, and this important piece of road infrastructure will help service the thousands of new residents expected in the area over the coming decade. It will improve travel times for motorists, buses and cyclists.

The 2016/17 ACT Budget will focus on our health, education, transport and social inclusion priorities – more nurses, more teachers, more transport options and more support for our most vulnerable.

Minister for Transport and Municipal Services Meegan Fitzharris said that  “Cotter Road is an important road connecting the growing Weston Creek and Molonglo Valley region to the rest of our beautiful city.”

“The ACT Government is committed to improving our transport network, no matter where you live. Whether this means improving the bus services, investing in new modes, or upgrading our roads and cycle paths.”

“I look forward to talking to the community about the duplication and how we can ensure it is delivered as soon as possible.”
