Australian Capital Tourism's innovative new social media destination marketing campaign, titled 'The Human Brochure', starts today - with social media savvy Australians invited to apply to experience a special weekend in Canberra.
The Human Brochure is a world first. In the lead up to the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, Australian Capital Tourism is inviting 500 Australians to visit the nation's capital to see first-hand our diverse range of attractions and to judge Canberra for themselves.
This will allow people from around Australia to engage in a meaningful way with Canberra, and build a community of advocates via social media and real-life experiences.
There is no doubt that the best form of advertising is word of mouth. By creating an army of ambassadors to sell Canberra to their family and friends, the Human Brochure will be a great investment in helping to build our tourist numbers and grow our economy.
Those selected may bring a friend or their family to share the experience. Their accommodation, meals and activities will be paid for. In return, participants will be asked to share their experiences with family, friends, networks and peers using their own words, pictures and videos on social media.
The weekends will take place on 26-28 October 2012 and 15-17 February 2013. Applications can be made at www.500humans.com.au or on Facebook. Applications close on 21 September 2012.
Australian Capital Tourism is working with members of the tourism industry to provide an array of exciting activities focused on four key interest areas: arts and culture, foodies, family fun, and adventure.
Each experience will be tailored to the individual's interests and may include cycling, tours of cultural attractions, meeting a winemaker and plenty of family fun activities.
The ACT Government is investing about $1 million in this innovative campaign. The campaign is also being supported by local tourism operators.
