Roses are Red, Violets are Blue: Send a love note to your library, there's just so much to do

Released 13/02/2018

Leaving it under a pillow, in the lunch cooler bag or on the dashboard in the car. If you choose to write a love letter to your partner for Valentine’s Day, go the extra step and also write a special note to your local library.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 14 February 2018, is Library Lovers’ Day (LLD). A chance for the community to spread the L-O-V-E on why the library is so special to them.

“Libraries ACT offer many opportunities for our members to keep connected and every year we promote LLD,” Vanessa Little, Libraries ACT Director said.

“We are asking Canberrans to send a love note to our team. Whether it is borrowing a book or movie, downloading music or a magazine, reading the daily paper or just keeping cool out of the heat and checking emails, there are many reasons our members love our libraries,” Ms Little said.

“Tell us what you love about libraries or what book you're crushing on. Write us a letter, or email, or send us a message on Twitter or on Facebook @LibrariesACT and tell us why you love the library using the hashtag, #libraryloversday,” Ms Little said.

Also on Wednesday 14 February 2018, a special event is planned at the Civic Library with special guests telling why the library means so much to them and what their favourite books are.

“From 12 pm till 1pm, Libraries ACT will host a lunch date with an author, an Aboriginal woman who is a champion for Indigenous reading and a Canberra journalist,” Ms Little said.

“Guests will be interviewed on stage with questions welcome from the audience. We want everyone to feel the L-O-V-E for their local library. The event is free of charge and bookings are welcome through the  Libraries ACT website at www.library.act.gov.au.”

Love letters can be left at individual branches, via email at library.customerinfo@act.gov.au or on Twitter and facebook @LibrariesACT. For members who prefer posting a love note, they are welcome that way too at  GPO Box 158, Canberra City, ACT, 2601.
