Maintenance to Gungahlin Drive bridge to close northbound lanes

Released 30/01/2018

To ensure the continued safety for motorists and other road users, both northbound lanes of the Gungahlin Drive bridge over the Barton Highway at Crace will be temporarily closed for maintenance from  7 pm, Friday 2 February till 6 am, Monday 5 February 2018, (weather permitting).

The closure will allow for two expansion joints to be replaced on the bridge as well as road resurfacing of the northbound lanes, which is part of the ongoing 2017-18 Transport Canberra and City Services Bridge Bearing replacement program.

Effects on traffic

  • Changed traffic conditions can be seen on the attached map.
  • Motorists and road users already travelling north on Gungahlin Drive will be detoured to use the off ramp via the Barton Highway exit and then re-enter the Barton Highway at the traffic lights by turning right to gain access onto Gungahlin Drive via the on ramp.
  • Motorists and road users on the Barton Highway will be detoured into Bellenden Street and will be required to perform a U-Turn. Motorists will then travel along the Barton Highway (southbound) and enter Gungahlin Drive via the on ramp. Signage will be provided for the U-turn location.

Location of road closures

  • Both northbound lanes on the Gungahlin Drive bridge, over the Barton Highway at Crace.

Timing of closures

The temporary closure of the two northbound lanes will commence from 7 pm, Friday 2 February until  6 am, Monday 5 February 2018 (weather permitting).
