Intersection closures along Northbourne Avenue for Light Rail works

Released 22/06/2018

Diversions will be in place to help drivers navigate the upcoming intersection closures as Light Rail Stage 1 works continue to progress along Northbourne Avenue. Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) and Canberra Metro are working hard to complete construction and to ensure these closures cause as little disruption as possible.

  • From 10.00pm tonight (Friday 22 June) until 4.00am Monday 25 June, the intersection at Antill and Mouat Streets will be closed to traffic turning right from Northbourne Avenue and to all through traffic along Antill and Mouat Streets.
  • From 8.00pm next Friday (29 June) until 4.00am Monday 2 July, the intersection at Wakefield and Macarthur Avenues will be closed to traffic turning right on both streets and to all through traffic along Wakefield and Macarthur Avenues.
  • Also, from 8.00pm next Friday (29 June) until 4.00am Monday 2 July, motorists coming into Canberra from Sydney will not be able to turn right at the Barton Highway intersection on Northbourne Avenue. Motorists coming down the Barton Highway will not be able to turn right onto Northbourne Avenue towards the city.

Detours, traffic control and pedestrian management will be in place, and signage and personnel will be highly visible throughout the works. Motorists are encouraged to follow the detours and allow additional travel time over the affected weekends.

TCCS thanks the public for their continued understanding and patience during these interruptions. For up-to-date information on road closures please call Canberra Metro on 1300 208 824, visit  www.canberra-metro.com.au or follow Canberra Metro on social media.
