It will be easier than ever to get your bike on a bus, with Transport Canberra announcing a further 33 buses in their fleet will be fitted with bike racks.

Director, Public Transport Operations, Ian McGlinn said Transport Canberra is currently in the process of installing the new bike racks, with all 33 to be installed on buses by the end of June 2017.

“This means 92 per cent of our total fleet will be equipped with these bike racks, providing even greater access to active travel options for Canberrans using public transport,” Mr McGlinn said.

“The ACT Government is committed to providing active travel options for Canberrans, and these bike racks are an environmentally friendly and healthy way for people to use their bike to access public transport.

“Not only is combining bike use with bus travel a money saver, it also allows people to find their 30 minutes of physical activity for the day.

“While the majority of bus routes and services will provide patrons with the option to ride their bike to the bus stop and make use of the bike racks for the journey, it is not possible to fit bike racks on every bus due to turning circle restrictions at intersections and roundabouts.”

The availability of services with bike racks will be reported through the real-time nxtbus system. To find out if your bus has a bike rack simply visit  www.nxtbus.act.gov.au
