Learn how to ‘talk trash’ at the Library

Released 20/09/2017

As part of our Spring What’s On guide series of free programs, events and sessions to suit everyone, Libraries ACT is hosting several events to show how easy it is to turn trash into treasure.

“We are collaborating with ACT NOWaste on a series of events that offer Canberrans a chance to reimagine what they can do with their old stuff,” Director of Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said.

The NOWaste message is simple, Re-use, Reduce, Recycle. The series of events over the next few months by local recyclers and artists will shine a light on new ways and ideas of how to get creative and save some money at the same time.

Trash is not a dirty word to these presenters as they offer new life to discarded or damaged items.

“Our inspirational presenters will teach you how to do amazing things such as turn garden waste into natural sculptural artworks or turn old t-shirts and textile waste into funky and fashion friendly shopping bags.

Join guest blogger Bianca Jurd of ‘Waste Free Me’ as she discusses the struggles and triumphs of attempting a waste free lifestyle here in Canberra. Or find out what a Kokedama is and how you can make one.

“With a range of great sessions providing great ideas for a more sustainable Canberra, book in for you and the kids today and learn how to make the most of forgotten and unwanted treasures,” Vanessa Little said.

All programs with the Spring What’s On guide are free and most require bookings. For more information, visit www.library.act.gov.au or call 6205 9000.
