Key milestone reached on Cotter Road duplication

Released 21/08/2017

A key milestone on the duplication of Cotter Road has been reached today with traffic switched to the new road lanes.

“Construction on the Cotter Road duplication from west of the Tuggeranong Parkway to east of Yarralumla Creek is progressing well, on time and on budget,” said Ben McHugh, Director, Capital Works and Development Support at Transport Canberra and City Services.

“The new eastbound road lanes including the new bridge over Yarralumla Creek have been completed, with traffic moved onto this new stretch of road so that works can be undertaken on the existing lanes including bridge works.

“This traffic switch puts us well over the half way mark for works with the project expected to be fully complete in early 2018.”

The project will reach a number of milestones over the coming months including:

  • works on rehabilitating the current road to form the westbound lanes – to start in late August 2017; and
  • Tuggeranong Parkway overpass bridge works to widen the shared path – to start in September 2017.

“This upgrade will significantly increase traffic capacity and safety on this section of road and will complete the duplication of Cotter Road between Adelaide Avenue and John Gorton Drive.

“Thank you for your patience while we deliver this key piece of infrastructure.”

Roadside signage has been erected to alert road users to the changed traffic arrangements. Motorists should take additional care and follow the signage to ensure they are in the correct lanes.
