Explore the bargains galore at the Library Book Sale

Released 12/10/2017

The Libraries ACT book sale returns this weekend at the Tuggeranong library branch giving readers two days to take advantage of taking home a wide range of pre-loved books, magazines and picture books.

“This will be the third book sale Libraries ACT will host and something new and different this time is a series of car service and workshop manuals for vehicles including the Datsun Skyline, Torana and the 1969 mini,” Director of Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said.

“Our previous two book sales have proven to be a popular experience for readers and also provide an opportunity for Libraries ACT to find the space needed to keep all branches fresh and updated with new material.”

Approximately 60,000 new items are added to Libraries ACT collection each year. To make room for new items and keep the collection current and vibrant, older and less used items are regularly withdrawn. As well as book sales, Libraries ACT also donates suitable items to the community through aged care homes, charities as well as child and family care centres.

Proceeds from the book sale will help to support literacy in Canberra through targeted Libraries ACT programs.

“The Spring What’s On guide has free programs at all of the ACT’s nine library branches for all ages,” Ms Little said.

“There is a wide variety of programs that include gardening tips, learning First Aid, joining in author talks and for fans of a galaxy far, far away the Star Wars Reads day on Saturday 14 October will be a popular event. The event at Gungahlin Library will include a dramatic reading of a Star Wars story and a cosplay competition.”

The Libraries ACT book sale runs from 10 am - 4 pm Saturday 14 October and 12 pm - 3 pm Sunday
15 October 2017 at the Tuggeranong branch (upstairs) on Cowlishaw Street. Prices will vary with a variety of magazines for sale for 20 cents, picture books, junior fiction and junior non-fiction at $1.00, fiction and large print for $2.00 and $3.00 for non-fiction books. Car service and workshop manuals will be priced from $5.00.

Only cash payments will be accepted.

All programs with the Spring What’s On guide are free and most require bookings. For more information, visit www.library.act.gov.au or call 6205 9000.
