Volunteers with Libraries ACT have today been acknowledged for continued dedicated years of service at a special ceremony at Lyneham.

“Libraries ACT is fortunate to have more than 90 volunteers that support provision of much needed services to the community,” Libraries ACT Director Vanessa Little said.

“Days like today are important to thank volunteers and also acknowledge those volunteers with Libraries ACT who have achieved milestones with 10, 25 or 30 years service.

“There are many diverse roles available for volunteers with Libraries ACT. These include helping to record Canberra’s history at the ACT Heritage Library, facilitating English conversation classes to people learning English as a second language and also delivering library items for the Home Library Service to assist those members of the community who are physically unable to visit any of the nine Libraries ACT branches.

“The contribution all volunteers make is greatly appreciated.  Volunteering is a cornerstone of a healthy and vibrant society and we are fortunate in Canberra to have the highest rate of volunteering in Australia,” Ms Little said.

Five volunteers from Libraries ACT received long service awards:

  • 10 year milestone  - Michael Hall, Jan Blank and Kay Griffiths
  • 25 year milestone - Bahma Parish
  • 33 year milestone - Rob Thomson.

“As well as acknowledging the efforts of all volunteers, I would also like to thank these five volunteers on this special achievement of continued service with Libraries ACT including Rob Thomson from the home library service for 33 years of service,” Ms Little said.

“Congratulations to all the volunteers with Libraries ACT. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and I hope your work continues to be a rewarding experience,” Ms Little concluded.

The ceremony was held today at the Kamberra Winery at Lyneham.
