Exercise caution in wet and windy weather

Released 29/09/2016

The ACT Government is advising motorists and other road users to take care on roads across the ACT, particularly rural roads, unsealed roads and level crossings, with wet and windy weather predicted over the coming days.

The wet weather, combined with a high water table following several months of higher than average rainfall may lead to temporary lane or road closures.

Motorists are asked to drive to current weather conditions, to take care when driving on unsealed roads, and not to drive through flooded low level crossings for any reason. Please stay clear of flooded lakes, ponds and cycle paths.

The public should also be aware that forecast high winds combined with recent wet weather may cause trees and branches to fall onto roads, pathways, parks and public spaces.

For more information check TCCS twitter or the website. Information on road and crossing closures will be released as it becomes available. Signage will be erected to advise motorists of conditions in certain areas. For your own safety, please assist us by obeying all signage.

There are some closures already in place following recent inclement weather.

The northbound lanes on Melrose Drive between Eggleston Crescent and Hindmarsh Drive are currently closed due to a burst water main.

The following crossings remain closed across the ACT:

  • Angle Crossing
  • Sunshine Crossing.

The following roads remain closed except for four wheel drive vehicles:

  • the unsealed section of Boboyan Road
  • the unsealed section of Brindabella Road.

For information on road closures please call Access Canberra on 13 22 81 or visit www.tccs.act.gov.au
