The ACT Gambling and Racing Commission and the Youth Coalition of the ACT have just launched new websites which support information and resources on gambling harm.
Providing interactive and targeted resources to the Canberra community is a key priority of both agencies as they work to support awareness of the risks associated with gambling.
The new Gambling and Racing Commission website offers more interactive resources for industry and community, greater visibility of information on gambling harm, as well as being more user-friendly.
The Youth Coalition have developed a website aimed at providing greater information to young people aged between 18 and 30 years who may have concerns about the gambling activities of themselves, their friends or family.
The website, called AtOdds, offers a range of resources to help reduce gambling risk-taking amongst young people and help them make more informed decisions. The project has been funded through the Problem Gambling Assistance Fund from the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission.
David Snowden, Chief Executive Officer of the Gambling and Racing Commission said together, the Gambling and Racing Commission and the Youth Coalition provided some important information for the Canberra community.
“We are committed to making a difference by preventing and reducing gambling harm and information is powerful when it comes to understanding the signs, risks as well as where to get support when it comes to gambling harm.”
Youth Coalition Director of Policy and Development, Hannah Watts, said it was important for young people to have easy access to information about how gambling works and how it could affect them in a way they could engage with and understand.
“We know that 18 to 30 year olds are more likely to experience gambling harm than other age groups, so it’s important for us to feature stories and real life experiences on our website – giving young people a resource they can really resonate with” Ms Watts said.
Both websites will continue to evolve with new resources and materials being added progressively over the coming months.
