About the Government Information Office 2011 - 2015
The Government Information Office was created in June 2011, following recommendations in the Hawke Report. The role of the GIO is to provide across-government advice and coordination on ICT issues and release of government information. The GIO had a role in helping realise the ACT Government's commitment to Open Government and to support innovation in the use of web 2.0 technologies.
The GIO was part of the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate and was staffed by a small team. It worked in partnership with other ICT areas and drew on expertise from across the ACT Government to deliver projects, such as dataACT, the ACT Government’s open data portal. Much of the work of the GIO will now be undertaken by the newly created Office of the Chief Digital Officer.
