Indigenous Netball Tournament |
The inaugural ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Netball Tournament was held on Saturday 31 October 2015. The tournament was held to provide a fun-filled, competitive netball tournament that encouraged physical activity and school attendance while also bringing together communities from around
Australia. The ACT Government provided support to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Netball Tournament as part of the Healthy Weight Initiative. 2016 ACT Adult Community Education (ACE) Grants Program
The ACT Adult Community Education (ACE) Grants Program is designed to support quality adult community learning opportunities in a range of formal and informal settings using flexible and learner centred activities. The ACT ACE Grants Program aims to increase opportunities for individuals to access vocational education and training (VET) by:
- providing pathways and bridging programs that are not funded elsewhere
- attracting people who have experienced barriers to learning
- attracting and supporting people identified as members of strategic priority groups (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, victims of family and domestic violence)
- addressing a community need; and
- providing learning opportunities that are flexible, innovative, customised and community based.
Details of the ten projects to be delivered by eight recipients of ACT ACE Grants Program funding in 2016 are provided below.

CBR Innovation Development Fund
CBR Innovation Development Fund (CBR IDF) is a competitive grant program to support activities that develop the capability and growth of the ACT’s innovation ecosystem. The focus of the CBR IDF is to deliver new resources, services, technology and investment to meet identified gaps within the local innovation sector.

Innovation Connect: Accelerating Innovation
Innovation Connect is a competitive grant program that supports Canberra-based businesses develop innovative products and services. The Accelerating Innovation category is targeted at local companies that have proven the feasibility of their innovation concept and require product to market readiness. Applicants can apply for funding between $5,000 and $10,000 and must match the funding provided.

Special Event Fund
The ACT Government’s Special Event Fund, administered by Visit Canberra, seeks to invest in major events that provide the opportunity to increase promotion of the ACT and Canberra region in the domestic and international markets – with a view to drive increased interstate and international visitation and generate positive economic outcomes to the Territory.
Special Event Funding is available on a minimum dollar for dollar basis for funding of interstate and/or international marketing activities for events or exhibitions staged within the ACT. The co-operative nature of the Special Event Fund requires major investment by event partners to fund the necessary acquisition, creation and/or development of the exhibition or event.

Tourism Marketing Partnership Program
The Tourism Marketing Partnership Program provides co-operative dollar for dollar matched funding to traditional and non-traditional partners with marketing projects that align with the ACT Government Tourism 2020 objectives. The program’s objectives are to:
- deliver poshat challenge visitor perceptions and stimulate overnight bookings/conversionitive and measurable economic outcomes for the ACT tourism industry
- align with VisitCanberra strategies, target markets and brand values
- deliver vibrant, cooperative marketing campaigns that have the capacity to drive significant interstate and international overnight visitation and yield
- promote Canberra as a short break destination
- innovative and deliver compelling marketing strategies that challenge visitor perceptions and simulate overnight bookings/conversion
- form long term sustainable partnerships and maximise the opportunity to leverage influential industry distribution channels to advocate and influence visitors.

Tourism Demand-Driver Infrastructure Program
In July 2014, Australian state and territory tourism ministers endorsed a set of overarching principles and a funding mechanism for the new Tourism Demand-Driver Infrastructure Program. The Commonwealth provided $43.1 million over four years to the states and territories for the development of tourism infrastructure. Of this $3.075 million has been made available to the ACT Government over 2014-18, administered via VisitCanberra.
The Tourism Demand-Driver Infrastructure Program provides monetary investment on a matched dollar for dollar basis, to develop tourism infrastructure, ensuring the benefits of any government investment can be multiplied across the sector. In particular the program supports projects that contribute to achieving the Tourism 2020 objectives.

The Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate (CMTEDD) is actively involved in a large range of activities in undertaking its primary role of enhancing the economic development of the ACT. It has a large stakeholder base that includes industry and business institutions, professional societies and community councils and groups.
The Land Development Agency’s (LDA) partnership approach attracts many requests for sponsorship. The support requested may be in the form of cash payment, in-kind support through provision of goods, labour or services, or a combination of these.
Sponsorship provides an opportunity to enhance the LDA’s and the ACT Government’s corporate identity and promote government-delivered programs and services.
