ACT Veterans' Advisory Council

Following the formation of the National Commission of the ANZAC Centenary, the ACT Government established an ACT Veterans' Advisory Council to consider local Veterans issues, including advising government on upcoming centenary activities in the ACT related to Australia's participation in World War I (1914-18) and the one hundredth anniversary of Australia's involvement in the conflict at Gallipoli in 1915.

The Council comprises 8 Members and is Chaired by Mr John King, who is President of the ACT RSL.

The Council operates under its Terms of Reference, the key features of which include:

  • Up to eight members, comprised of representatives of veterans' associated and associated ex-service organisations.
  • Functions of the Council include investigating and providing advice to Government on veterans' matters, including ageing, health, welfare and disability.
  • The Council will investigate matters referred to it by the Chief Minister for response on behalf of the veterans' community.
  • Secretariat support provided will be provided by the Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate.

The Council held its first meeting on 30 September 2011 and meets every 2-3 months.
